The Mirage is a hotel and casino located at 3400 Las Vegas Blvd South, on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The Mirage has over 3,000 hotel rooms and is connected to Treasure Island by a complimentary tram. The marquee in front of the Mirage is famous for being the biggest free standing marquee in the world.
The Mirage was built by Steve Wynn on a site formerly occupied by the Castaways and (even earlier in history) the Red Rooster Nite Club. When it opened in 1989, The Mirage was the first Las Vegas casino to use security cameras full time on all gaming tables.
In the 1970s, Las Vegas experienced a decline in visitors, especially once New Jersey legalized gambling in Atlantic City. Something was needed to recuperate Las Vegas’ appeal, and the construction of The Mirage became a part of the reinvention of Vegas. So influential was The Mirage that is is considered the father of today’s Las Vegas, with large resorts and plenty of side activities.
The Mirage has been parodied in at least three major video games, Need For Speed: Carbon (where a casino is named ‘The Mirror’), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (where the alias is ‘The Visage’) and Hitman: Blood Money (featuring ‘The Shamal’). The Mirage – or rather its poker room – is also the dream destination of Matt Damon’s character Mike McDermott in the poker movie Rounders.
The Mirage’s poker room is located across from the Main Cashier’s Cage on the Casino Floor, and features cash games, daily scheduled tournaments and sit & go’s. Poker lessons are available free of charge.

One of the permanent shows at The Mirage is the highly regarded LOVE, a Cirque du Soleil production featuring remixes of The Beatles songs. The show plays at a specially built theatre at The Mirage. The music is re-produced and re-imagined, and combined with Cirque du Soleils circus-based athletic performances.
The story starts during The Blitz and loosely traces the history of The Beatles from the band’s founding to its major break through, and further into psychedelic and spiritual works. The scene is filled with plenty of fictional characters invented by The Beatles, such as Sgt. Pepper, Mr. Kite, Eleanor Rigby, Lady Madonna, and Lucy in the Sky.
