From Novice to Pro
In a Year or So
Dale Tarbet (left, with John Phan) has gained a lot of poker wisdom lately and is beginning to earn the respect of some very well known players. We chatted with him on Nov 27th, where he was playing at the Plaza's Ultimate Poker Challenge $1,000 buy-in second chance event, which would have payed him another $3,000, had he survived 2 more players and this after a 3rd place finish less than a week earlier in a $500 buy-in event which he won his seat at in a $65 buy-in single table satellite. That finish earned him $3,200. He has been playing a lot of online poker over a period of 6 months and has just recently begun to play the live events in Las Vegas. He seems to do the best in single table Sit'n'Go cash games and satellites, often winning them outright and advancing to much larger events. His people skills and his ability to communicate with the other players
are 2 of the biggest reasons for his success. He sometimes creates deceptive signals, which makes it very hard for his extremely experienced opponents to get a read on him, while at the same time, his outgoing nature makes it easier for him to get a read on his opponents. He does not admit to good mathematical skills. In his first trip to the World Series of Poker last June, he won $12,600 by first winning another single table satellite, then winning the main event that evening against more than 100 opponents. We are going to follow his poker career path from this point on by adding to this page as time goes by. Email Dale at daletarbet@bresnan.net.
